Solar Rebates and Tax Credit

Residential Solar Incentive Programs

There are currently two government incentive programs that can help financially with the installation of both, solar domestic hot water and solar electric systems. The federal government offers an income tax credit and the State of Florida has recently initiated a rebate program.

Florida Solar Rebate Program

A new energy bill signed into law by Jeb Bush this past June sets up a rebate program for photovoltaic systems at $4 per watt of installed capacity with a maximum of $20,000 for residential customers. A $500 rebate will be given for installations of solar hot water systems. There are also grants and rebates available for commercial and nonprofit organizations. 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit

In the Energy Act of 2005, the U.S. Congress passed an income tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of a solar electric or solar domestic hot water system, not to exceed $2,000. Below are two good sources that can provide information on this program and other federal incentive programs for renewable energy.
